Now that the kids are out of school and starting vacation, what a great time to bring out the Mommy’s Messages. Stuff them under your kids’ pillows, in their backpacks for overnights, or even on their plates for breakfast. Great for the spouses too. Holidays can be the most wonderful time of the year, but also a time to remember those we love amongst all this hustle and bustle. There may even be a great joke, tongue twister or positive note that can be left for the mail delivery person or coaches and teachers. Meanwhile, Mommy’s Messages are perfect for the week going back to school. What a great way to remind the kids how much you are thinking of them once they’ve come of the change of vacation. They will be so thrilled to get a note in their lunch, and you will feel great sending them off. We also have the BFF’s which make great stocking stuffers and perfect notes for the girls when they get back to school. Again, from our family to yours, happy holidays and a very happy new year. May 2012 be the one!!!!

So I just finished watching The King’s Speech. I thought the movie was great. Not only was the acting, directing, cinamatography and story fantastic, but the film reminded me of why we do what we do. It reminded me how important it is to love our kids and tell them how much we care. Show them how important they are to us, no matter what. I’m sure we all have imperfections…some more obvious than others. However, to show kindness and compassion, give hugs and kisses – that’s the kind of encouragement kids need. This is what helps them to be who they become. I know that it may seem trivial to put a note in their lunchbox and someday they’ll be king. But, to show love and support helps them to know that whatever choices they make in life, we are behind them and are here for them. So with the coming of a new year, I encourage everyone to add one kiss to the day; one hug; one ‘I love you.’ I promise it will have an everlasting impact on your children and you.

Well, it’s Thanksgiving week. Only 3 lunches to pack. Definitely going to try to draw some turkeys on the Mommy’s Messages. A great idea is to use the mommy’s messages during the holiday to place on pillows and in hidden locations for the kids to find. There are a lot of days with no school, so anything to show you love them while cooking and cleaning is a plus. At this time of the year, especially during a difficult year as we’ve faced, there is always so much to be thankful for…good friends, family, and a new version of Saturday for us. They say ‘change is good’. I’m not sure who they are and why it’s good, but I’m just going to go with it. We’ve had a tough year, and I’m not quite seeing the light at the end of it all, but friends and family are all holding flashlights, so we’ll see (literally and figuratively). I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Hold your kids tight, kiss your loved ones, and look forward to 2011. We wish you all a very happy Thanksgiving. If anyone has any great leftover ideas, please comment and send them our way. Turkey sandwiches and mommy’s messages. Yummmmmmm

We moved to our community in 2004. In 2007, tragedy struck when one of our neighbors lost her three children in a terrible car accident just minutes from home. Recently, the Coble Family with their 2 1/2 year old triplets, born just a year after their siblings’ deaths, was on Oprah. They talked about the tragic day and years to follow. Currently they are fighting Cal Trans to take the responsibility for not fixing the known dangers of that freeway exit. They are ordering the Cobles to pay $291,000 for legal fees. I think this in and of itself is a tragedy. These people are fighting for our children to be safe. I exit Oso all the time, and it is often backed up. They have specifically said that this lawsuit is not about getting money, but about righting what is wrong, and caring about the safety of our highways. I just have to say that I think about the Coble Family everyday. Kyle, Emma and Katie could have been any of our children. I admire the strength and love that Chris and Lori exhibit and am amazed at their ability to get up each day. As a mom, I cannot imagine the pain she must feel, but to have the memories of the 5 years is so precious and so meaningful. Lori, I reach out to you with hugs and thoughts, and think of your children everyday…the ones in heaven and the ones on earth. Your neighbors and Ladera family <3

So, just back from one show, and thinking about doing another. What am I doing? If anyone can give me some advice about whether or not to attend this show, I need it now. I am trying to move the nonprofit my husband and I run, plus with Christmas and filling orders, going across the country seems like a lot. However, you do what you’ve got to do. I was listening to Broadminded, and they were interviewing a man with no arms and no legs. He has written a book and is traveling the world and inspiring kids. My questions start to seem so trivial and simple when I think of him and what he’s gone through.

So, not to be such a downer, but I am just thinking through a lot of stuff. BFF Messages have been launched and it’s going very well. We can’t wait to introduce them after Christmas to the stores we’re already in with Mommy’s Messages. However, we look forward to adding Mommy’s Messages and BFF’s to the new stores since the show. We’re getting such great response and support. Thanks everyone. So, I’m not the best blogger. Just writing whatever at the moment. Seems better than going on Facebook. Can you tell I needed a break from work?!? Working on our new products and adding designs on some old ones. Anyone with any opinions about the New York Show, please let me know. We need to decide pretty quickly. Looks like one or two of us will be headed to Florida for a show with Once Upon A Child the week before. East Coast, here we come!!!

So, we just returned from a week at the ABC Kid’s Expo. It was an interesting show. We made a lot of great contacts for our own products. Additionally, as moms ourselves, we got to be exposed to many new and great products out there for kids and babies. Check back for some specifics about fun and functional new stuff for you and your kids. Meanwhile, we launched the BFF messages at the show and had a really positive response. We are so excited about the new stores that will be carrying Mommy’s Messages and BFF Messages. The show was a huge learning experience for us as well. Lesson one: do not look at other booths…you will just want to spend money. Lesson two: don’t go home with more than you brought. Lesson three: rent, rent, rent. While we couldn’t understand why one would rent for more than you could buy brand new stuff for, I now know. Everything you buy is another thing to carry. After many hours on your feet, it’s just easier to rent and leave. Our neighbors at the show were EVO and Little Stinkers. They were both such great companies with really nice people. People who work in the child/baby industry are so great. As I said, we met so many wonderful people with truly fantastic ideas and products. There was only one product that we didn’t get and it didn’t make any sense to us, but that shall remain nameless. We are truly looking forward to the New York Gift show in January.
